CRS Open weeks

April 16th – April 20th Child Development

This week explores what standard child development looks like.  What were Gods intentions in the beginning? We will see God the Creator in a new light as we explore his desires for development.

Guestspeaker: Barbara Rüegger, CH

April 23rd – April 27th Children and HIV/Aids

How are children effected by HIV/Aids, and how can we best help them? How can we teach about HIV/Aids in a developing world?  This week explores the reality of this epidemic and it’s impact on children around the globe.

Guestspeakers: Ray and Joy Thomas, UK

April 30th – May 4th Attachment Disorder

Children who are adopted or who have lived through trauma without a stable mother or father on their side tend to have issues with attachment. What is attachment disorder? How can we recognize it? Is there something that can be done?

Guestspeaker: Carol Boyd, USA (Skype)

May 14th – May 18th Street Children

For many years, Steve Bartel has lived and worked in Bogota (Colombia) with street children. He will be sharing personal stories, experiences, and advices. We will explore how to offer help, aid, and possible solutions to this growing reality in our world.

Guestspeaker: Steve Bartel, Colombia

 May 23rd – May 25th Family Abuse

Family Abuse happens not only in the third world nations. It is all around us. We will explore it’s nature and damaging effects – specifically, how can we work with children who experience abuse and families who live through it.

Guestspeaker: Jolande Nziou, UK

May 29th – June 1st Alternatives to Residential Care

There may always be pro’s and con’s in any given solution, and yet, some solutions are better than others. During this week, we will learn about alternatives to Residential Care, maybe options we have not even considered. Because it always comes back to the question: What is best for the child at risk?

Guestspeaker: Mick Pease, UK

June 4th – June 6th Counselling with Children

In a world of injustice and hurt, a basic understanding of counseling is both necessary and helpful. If we want to help children to express what they are feeling, we need to have tools to do so. Marianne Gerber has her own practice, and she will share hands-on experience to coach us.

Guestspeaker: Marianne Gerber, CH
