The School of Digital Communication (SDC)
While the School of Design (Phase 1) provides the principles behind good design, the School of Digital Communications (Phase 2) gives you training in how to use the latest and greatest tools to take what is in your imagination and make it a reality. The School of Digital Communication builds on the School of Design, therefore you need to do the SD before you can apply for SDC. Exceptions can be made, but the decision remains with the school leader.
Seminar Weeks are also available, please apply here.
The school covers Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Dreamweaver, Flash, Final Cut, After Effects or Motion graphics, Presentations and so much more… Each week focuses on learning the tool, but even more importantly you get to create amazing projects each week too. Come and join us, no previous training is necessary, whether you are a photo-editing guru or just interested in knowing how to shoot a video or design your newsletter – this school is for you!

The school is broken into three sections. We start off with mastering Print, we learn Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign. You will learn how to lay out a page and create illustration, amazing imagery and incredible illustrations to make your project content come alive. The teaching will focus on giving you a very clear understanding of the foundations of each program so that you can continue to explore and stretch the gifts God has given you. You will naturally gravitate towards one of the three sections, but often people who have done the school find that they get exposed to a new medium and become fascinated by video having never done it before or that they love creating websites. Whatever your passion, it will come out in the course of the school and we will be excited to see it!
The SDC is about exposing yourself to communication technology and teaching you how to use it. This twelve-week course takes you through the following: • print • digital video • motion graphics • cross-cultural design • web development…but these are just the raw tools you’ll learn on the computer. We’ll also cover the philosophy of excellent communication, design for traditional and new forms of media and communication production in the 21st century.

The purpose of this course is to give each student the experience and balance between skill and spiritual growth, redeeming the truth that God is the source of all creativity. The knowledge of God is extended through the dynamic life of Jesus and lived out in the daily life of an individual. We seek as a University, college and school to produce people that embody that approach to the world and demonstrate it’s power in their character, wisdom and servant heart. The School’s objective is to expose each student to the foundations for design. We will focus on three different areas; Print, Motion and Web. In this environment we want to encourage all learning styles for the best results from each student by the end of the course. During this school we hope that you will be prepared for the world with the mind of Christ and know how to deal with your day as he would. We hope to release people who will aggressively pursue God’s call on their lives to the communications industry and the world that it influences.
The tools are important, the creativity will definitely help, but ultimately the message is key. Without a message that is different, you will be lost in the drone of the crowd. Tapping into God and His perspective on life means that we have relevancy. God = Reality! The school will not be just about gaining new skills but also challenging our thinking about the world we live in, the stories we tell, the projects we decide to take on, the issues we highlight in those projects. Be ready to face God as we look at the implications of working in the world, affirming what is good and challenging the way we and others think about the issues of our day. With the tools, also comes the responsibility to see God expressed behind the images we create, the films we shoot and the social network that is the internet. This is the time to discover God again for a whole new generation.
