School of strategic communication
“When the people heard, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, “What shall we do then?” Acts 2:37 This school is designed to raise up Spirit-led activists whose words, like Peter’s, cut to the heart and provoke the question, “What shall we do then?” Students will discover what their audience truly believes, and will develop the skills to reach them with relevant, transformational communication. Whether you want to promote a new business or turn the tide on AIDS infections, this school will equip you to communicate effectively.
The school consists of eight lecture weeks with morning sessions taught by visiting experts in marketing, research, and creative communication. Afternoon workshops provide immediate, practical application throughout the school. In the final four weeks, the students will work in groups to create comprehensive communication campaigns that will influence their selected audience’s views on a social justice issue.
- The prophetic role of communicators in society – Identity – Asking good questions – Methods of research – The marketing mix – Forward thinking/anticipating trends – Project management – Symbolism and branding
There will be overarching topics worked into every week, such as co-creating with God, provoking critical thinking in your listeners, and walking in righteousness while surrounded by sin.
After the School
Students who have excelled in the school will have the opportunity to intern either in a major US ad agency or a communication ministry. Please inform the school leader as soon as possible if you are interested in either of these opportunities. Students can also propose an internship to accomplish their own strategic communication goals, such as political or evangelistic campaigns, and promoting new marketplace or ministry initiatives, etc.
This school serves as an integration and application bridge between your skill schools (writing, design, video production, etc.) and your content schools (APC, SBS, Humanities). If you are pursuing a communication degree through the U of N, this course fulfills the Marketing and Research requirement. After the School of Strategic Communication you should be able to put to use everything you’ve learned during your studies in the U of N.
Cost and dates
All of our 3 month schools cost CHF3750, this amount covers your tuition, food and housing during the lecture phase. If there is an outreach you will be charged a separate fee, which will be communicated to you in advance and will depend on your outreach location. Some of our schools also charge a book fee of up to CHF150, to cover books and resources that you will be able to take away with you after the school.
