Step into a world hungering for true love and freedom
Picture yourself motoring down a wide, muddy river in the Amazon basin with 10 of your closest friends, carrying inside of you the one message of hope that can liberate a people hidden deep in the world’s largest jungle… Picture yourself waking up in the heart of Africa and stepping outside of your residence to a savannah sunrise and 25 grinning, dark-skinned children full of eagerness to receive the love of Christ in you… Picture yourself hiking up to an overlook in India that provides a sweeping view of the exotic, sprawling city below you, and taking the opportunity to powerfully pray with your teammates for the freedom of Christ to rain down. Are you hungry to wake up to the reality of God’s passionate love and powerful purpose for you and for this world? Do you want MORE – more of God, more passion, more fire? Do you want to experience God’s heart, to join Him in His deep and world-transforming purposes? If your answer is “YES!” then Compassion DTS is for YOU.” Compassion DTS aims to address issues of poverty and injustice in a world gone wrong. We believe God has called us to champion the cause of those in need. We desire strongly to be a voice of the voiceless. If you have a courageous heart, and a burning desire to see God’s love spread abroad…. come join us! But beware: this DTS is definitely not for the fainthearted!
This YWAM-DTS is a journey to discover God’s heart for you and the world around you. It will give you deeper understanding of the ways of God and amazing opportunities to show His love and compassion. It is purposed to move you to acts of kindness and love to children at risk, the poor and the oppressed.
Our theme verse is from Micah 6:8 “He has shown you, O man, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God.” This DTS promises to be a place of going deeper with God and an opportunity for you to make a difference for eternity.
The field assignment
The outreach will focus on reaching the poor and needy, and children at risk, and will take you to places in Cambodia, Rwanda and possibly other countries. We reach out to those living in absolute poverty, the homeless, those struggling with life addictions, women and children at risk, and those have been sexually abused, trafficked or enslaved. Our hope is that out of our prayers and service new ministries will be birthed,” says Pieter. Although the DTS outreach requirement is twelve weeks, there will be long-term opportunities to pioneer teams and ministries. “Our desire is for each student to live a life of faith, to find their destiny in Christ and to make a difference in their world.”
Meet the school leaders
Pieter and Dawn Heres help lead the YWAM Children at Risk Network and are particularly interested in serving the nations of Southeast Asia. Pieter (Dutch) and Dawn (American) first met at the University of the Nations in Kona and have been married for 25 years. Their sons, John-Paul (21) and Jordan (18), have traveled with them to Bosnia, Cambodia, Vietnam and Japan in their service to the world’s hurting kids. You can find out more about them and their ministry by visiting their website (www.heresfamily.com).
The Challenge
We are seeing an amazing generation of young people full of a desire for justice and deep compassion for the least and the lost. They are world-changers marked by a deep commitment to Jesus, creativity, and leadership. The potential for true transformation is huge! That’s why we want to challenge you to an initial commitment of one or two years in missions. There are many possibilities after DTS for further training and to join teams of young pioneers in the nations.
Compassion DTS only has room for a limited number of students, but we want to include anyone who really desires to make a difference for Jesus in the world. This could be the door of opportunity to change your future, so don’t be afraid to step out!
Course dates and fees
The January DTS is a bilingual DTS (English/French) and will run for 24 weeks, starting in January, and ending in September. Fees for the 12-week lecture phase of the school are CHF3,750 (room, board and tuition). There are significant fee discounts for students from developing nations. Fees for the 12-week field assignment include airfares, housing and food, and they are estimated to be CHF4,000-5,000. For the exact school dates please click here.

Radical discipleship means being willing to live a life that pleases God 24/7. It means the transformation of thinking, behaviour, and surroundings (from your house to the nations!). It means nothing less than 100% commitment to growth that will lead to the ultimate fulfilment of your heart and Gods purposes.
The classroom phase lasts for 3 months. Week by week we tackle a different discipleship issue, as well as focus on the world. We invite a new speaker each week to impart to us what they have learned and lived. No two DTS’s are exactly the same, but they share a foundational curriculum. As we pray through each part of the process in forming it, God works with us to produce a unique discipleship structure for those who are led to be a part of it. Living and learning together in community is a dynamic part of the experience. *The character and ways of God *How to hear the voice of God *YWAM Foundational Values *Relationships *Personal character development *Spiritual warfare *Evangelism and missions *Cross-cultural ministry
Going on outreach for another 3 months in smaller teams, gives a wonderful opportunity to live out what was learned in the lecture phase; to put what we have in our heads and hearts into practice. By working with locals on projects, sharing our hope with the friends we make and using the gifts talents and abilities that He has given us we can show our faith by our works. Experiencing new cultures and learning from them enriches our lives as we work along side them to see His kingdom come.
Our desire is that you leave DTS in awe of your God, with a sincere desire to honour Him in every part of your life, and with a biblical understanding that helps you see God’s heart and purposes for the world. We want to send you out with a holistic and clear understanding of your place in the world and in His purposes, transformed and prepared to commit to reforming our societies, cultures, and nations in whatever capacity God may call you.
